Network Care

Who Can Benefit?

Whatever your goals, from tension, pain and symptom relief, to wellness and lifestyle benefits, Network Care can help and support you. Anyone feeling the effects of life's many stresses or wanting to reach their highest potential can benefit. Because it is so gentle Network Care is also suitable for infants, pregnant women, older people and those suffering from trauma.

In helping people release tension and stresses from their bodies I have helped them with a wide range of conditions. These include:

  • neck and back pain
  • headaches
  • asthma
  • anxiety
  • digestive problems
  • childhood learning and behavioural problems
  • stress-related problems, emotional issues and depression

You don't need to have a problem to benefit from Network Care though. Many people come to Lifewise because their family, friends and colleagues tell them how good they feel! And many people stay long after their symptoms are gone because they continue to build health. Network Care is a very proactive way of looking after your health and wellbeing.

Network Care

The Results

Network Care has been researched extensively in large studies by the University of California, Irvine*. Proven benefits include:

  • Improved flexibility, alignment and posture
  • Reduced symptoms, pain and headaches
  • Greater energy
  • Improved body function
  • Fewer colds and flu
  • Enhanced immune function
  • Improved mental clarity, performance and productivity
  • A sense of ease and relaxation as long term tensions are released
  • Greater capacity to cope with stress and adapt to change
  • Reduced anxiety and depression
  • Heightened emotional and psychological wellbeing
  • A greater ability to make instinctive positive change
  • Enhanced self confidence and satisfaction with life

This research also found that Network Care also doubled the benefits of other healthy lifestyle practices (eg. yoga, exercise, meditation, etc) and leads to a greater ability to make healthy lifestyle choices. Even in people receiving Network Care for 3 years there was no ceiling to the benefits!

Network Care

Benefits

Network Care is staged in a series of 3 levels of care that build on each other. During each successive level of care the type of input to your body changes, the strategies your body learns become more refined and powerful, and the benefits expand.

Level 1

Level 1 is all about reconnecting to your body, creating safety and ease, and significantly reducing the amount of surface tension present. As your body comes out of the stress-response the defensive armouring breaks down, you become more flexible, aches and pains shift and ease, and your posture may improve. Breath is able to move much more freely through your body. Most people feel more relaxed and have more clarity of thought. Occasionally emotional releases occur as your body releases the stored content of deeper stresses.

During Level 1 the touches are brief and precise to help your body come out of defence. Visits are initially frequent to generate the momentum needed to change and for maximum benefit.

Level 2

In Level 2 we build on the safety and connection developed in your body in Level 1. By holding contacts longer and using different positioning we increase the amount of input. Your brain and body are able to pay more attention to deeper layers of stress and bring it to the surface for release or use as energy for transformation. We challenge the anchors to patterns you are habitually stuck in and help them to dissolve. People working in Level 2 notice that they perceive and respond to stress much more effectively. You instinctively let go of the things in your life that aren't helpful to you. Change happens exponentially.

Level 3

Level 3 is about expansion. Life becomes much more effortless. We work to tap into deeper inner resources. You experience much more flow in your life, live in the moment more, become more attuned to your self and your environment, have a greater sense of purpose, develop an underlying sense of trust in your body and life, and adapt and thrive much more easily when negative situations arise. Our goal is to help you live to your optimal potential.

Network Care

Origin and Evolution

Network Care (also known by its technical name Network Spinal Analysis) has been developed over the last 30 years by an American chiropractor, Dr Donald Epstein. It is a synthesis of the best elements of chiropractic, the latest understanding in physiology, and mind-body integration. Rather than trying to force people's bodies to release tension by pushing on stuck areas, Network Care works with the natural rhythms and intelligence of their body helping it powerfully unwind core tension patterns from the inside out.

The results were unprecedented. People started to move and stretch spontaneously as their bodies took information and energy from the working parts to help free the stuck areas. They also reported large physical improvements in their health and body function as well as feeling more at ease in themselves, a better ability to cope with stress, greater self-confidence, better self-expression, and more fully reaching their potential in life.

How Network Care Works

Network Care is a finely tuned, incredibly gentle technique that works with your body and mind to directly address this stress-response. It uses precise touches to key areas of your spine. These send powerful signals to your brain to recognise and release stored tension, energy and stress throughout your body. Your nervous system and body are brought into ease and relaxation. Your body's powerful self-healing abilities are activiated, triggering an enormous amount of change.

How does it do this? Your body uses two very powerful mechanisms it has available: breath and movement.

During a Network Adjustment your body spontaneously takes bigger breaths and moves it to areas to release stored tension. Ultimately your whole spine moves as you breathe, with each vertebra (or spinal bone) moving individually.

Your body also starts to move. In our culture we've forgotten how to move, typically sitting at desks, in cars, and on couches for long periods each day! Movements during a Network Adjustment can be spontaneous or just in the desire to stretch and wiggle. Over time these movements become refined into a wave-like motion that passes right through your whole spine. Through this movement your body releases tension and defensive patterning, and shares information from one area to another.

Over a series of visits your body responds faster and more efficiently, releasing increasingly deeper layers of stress. Network Care is unique and powerful because it actually teaches your body to self-correct, an ability you keep for the rest of your life.

As your body releases tension you become more flexible and aches and pains shift and resolve. As you come out of stress mode the function of your whole body improves. Your body chemistry comes back into balance and your organ systems function better. You are able to relax much more easily and fully, focus more clearly, and respond to the challenges of life in a more appropriate and productive way.

Network Care

Responding to Stress

You wind up physically, mentally, emotionally and in your body chemistry in response to acute stress. For example, when you get a fright your body tightens, your blood pressure and heart rate go up, you release adrenaline and your thinking becomes clear and focused. Repair and maintenance functions like digestion, reproduction and immunity are shut down, as your brain diverts blood supply to your muscles, lungs and heart, preparing you to act rapidly.

This automatic response is known as the fright, fight, flight response and is your body's way of instantly rising to a challenge. It is a very powerful and useful survival mechanism dealing with stresses and avoiding potential trauma. Once the stress passes you relax and wind down. However, problems arise when the stress is significant or ongoing. Our modern lifestyles are full of these stresses, like sitting at a desk all day, car accidents, eating junk-foods, polution in the environment, and high stress jobs or relationships.

Over time your body can get stuck in a defensive stress-mode, building layers of tension and becoming less flexible. You begin to wear your life tensions as tight or restricted postures in your body. Changes in your body chemistry can become permanent, such as alterations in stress hormones, blood pressure and blood sugar levels. You stay mentally and emotionally wound up, feeling a constant low level of anxiety or sometimes reacting inappropriately through the filter of stresses that are days, months, years or even decades old!

In the short term your body is able to absorb and compensate around large amounts of built up stress. However, the long-term effects of this stress-response can challenge your ability to lead a full and productive life, robbing you of vitality, and leaving you physically, mentally and emotionally depleted. Pain, other symptoms and disease result when the accumulated stress becomes too great and your body is overwhelmed.

About Ben

My passion for Network Care comes from first hand experience of receiving it and feeling its ongoing and unique benefits. I spent significant time researching different chiropractic and other methods and found nothing was more effective than Network Care for helping people recover from the effects of stress and accumulated tension, and allow them to live to their fullest potential. It is exciting and fulfilling to work with a method where I see people change and grow in so many positive ways.

To become a qualified Chiropractor requires the completion of 5 years of intensive University training in areas of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, radiology, orthopaedics, rehabilitation, diagnosis and biomechanics.

Network Care is taught at a post-graduate level to Chiropractors. I have completed the highest level of training in Network Care. Because it is a modern, cutting edge method that is constantly evolving, I regularly attend professional seminars to update my knowledge and skills.

Outside of work I enjoy reading, keeping fit by bushwalking and rock-climbing and spending time with my wife Bridget, children Tom and Ilsa, and naughty but cute beagle Charlotte. I also trained as a classical singer, specialising in Early Music from the 15th to 17th Centuries, and have sung professionally with some of Australia’s best choirs and vocal ensembles.

Getting the Most out of Lifewise

The most important thing you can do to get the most out of Network Care is to engage in the process. This is something you are participating in, not just something that is done to you. Those people who take this approach get changes and results much faster.

Listen to your body

Be aware of your body while you are getting adjusted. Notice what feels tight, what feels free, if there are any new (or old) sensations in any areas, whether some parts seem related and others separate. Notice your breath. Does it get faster or slower, shallower or deeper or want to move to a different part? Do you feel the need to move or stretch? There is no right or wrong response with Network Care your body does what it needs to unwind and let go of old stress and tension.

Your body will also start to tell you more about what it needs to be healthy in everyday life. Stay aware of your breath. Keep moving or stretching, especially if your body tells you. Notice if your response in stressful situations changes? Is tension shifting or changing? Do old injuries resurface briefly? Network Care builds awareness and is a process of discovery.

Exercise

Gentle exercise is a great way to help you release tension, feel more energised and connect more fully to your body.

Rest & Life-Enjoyment

If you feel like resting or sleeping, go with it where possible. Give yourself time and permission to take a break and have fun!

Meditate

Find the time to calm your thoughts and centre your awareness within yourself. This can be through any activity that works for you, such as gardening, walking, enjoying art or music, or more formal forms of meditation.

Pure Foods and Water

Minimize your use of stimulants such as coffee or drugs and intoxicants such as alcohol. These interfere with your ability to be aware of your body. Eat pure, fresh whole-foods and drink plenty of water.

The next one is on: Date and Time TBA, at Lifewise, 138a Gilles St, Adelaide. All welcome.

Please book on 8232 9515.

Your visits

Your first visit lasts approximately 1 hour and begins with a detailed conversation about your health or life concerns. We then perform a thorough examination of your spine and body and give you feedback on the effects of stress and tension that we find. You also have an opportunity to experience your first Network Adjustment and its benefits. A follow-up Adjustment is also included to check how your body has responded. Please feel free to ask any questions you have during these first visits.

Ongoing visits last 10-20 minutes. As well as monitoring your progress during these visits we do detailed reassessments every 10 visits to let you know how you are progressing and explain the changes that are occurring. You will be asked to complete health and wellbeing questionnaires to get your perspective on what is changing in your body and life.

How long you choose to stay in care for is something for you to decide as you go along. If you get the changes you are seeking in 2-3 visits then you're done. If you feel you would like to keep improving then you continue. What we know from research and experience is that as you let go of progressively more tension and release more stress, you function better and it reflects in your experience of life.
